The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.

East Sussex Registration is a busy team delivering key services to the entire community. Every year across our Register Offices around the county we register thousands of births and deaths, as well as conducting thousands of weddings and civil partnerships. We also facilitate citizenship ceremonies for hundreds of people and reproduce tens of thousands of certificates from our historic archives dating back to 1837. People come to us at major events in their lives and count on us to deliver what they need, so our teams make a big impact on local communities.

This is a great opportunity to join our dynamic and progressive team, working across all of our offices, in Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings and Crowborough to deliver registration services to the residents of the county.

The role of Peripatetic Registrar is an interesting and varied one. The right candidate will have excellent customer service skills, calm and patient manner, attention to detail, great IT skills, good awareness of security, and have experience of public speaking. You will also be able to use your interpersonal skills to influence customers to carry out their legal obligations to register and be sensitive to the needs of those dealing with the effects of traumatic events.

This role also requires the successful candidate to be independently mobile as there will be considerable travel between our register offices across the county.
