Rangers play a hugely important role at the National Trust, thinking long term to look after our special places. Our new strategy for Land Outdoors and Nature means that we are investing in front line ranger services to help us deliver positive changes at a landscape scale. We are looking to recruit a Lead Ranger to join our team in Plas Newydd to ensure excellent, sustainable care and conservation is delivered across our land, be it our agricultural tenancies or our historic parklands.

What you'll be doing:This role involves being part of the Portfolio Senior Management Team. You’ll report directly to the General Manager, and will manage an Assistant Ranger and volunteers, working closely with the rest of the Heads of Departments across the portfolio.
You'll develop and coordinate a wide range of cyclical and response operations, commission specialist contractors and contribute to a programme of conservation and engagement projects. You’ll use your leadership skills and experience in countryside management to drive forward our ambitious plans for conservation and visitor engagement.
You’ll put conservation at the heart of everything you do. You’ll be planning and delivering a programme of work to deliver our nature conservation ambitions, support our farm tenants and develop recreation and access opportunities across the estates. You’ll always be considering how we can reduce our human footprint on the environment with a long-term focus on care and sustainability.
Leading your team of staff and volunteers, you’ll ensure every visitor receives a high quality, consistent welcome with access to our unique stories which bring these special places to life. You will be responsible for managing the budgets required to deliver this work and for protecting and enhancing the Trust’s assets and reputation. Due to the number of partner organisations, tenants, neighbours, activity providers and local stakeholders some of your time will be spent sharing our vision and working in partnership with others to help deliver it.
This role offers a great opportunity for someone with a balance of strong practical, engagement and management skills. Central to the role will be your ability to balance both the demands of managing and developing our countryside estates with those of a busy, high profile visitor environment.
