Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Human Rights Archivist and working with Technical Services, Research Services and Exhibits Program staff, this position will provide support for research services, technical services, and collection development activities of the Human Rights Archive.
- Assists with collections intake by establishing initial physical and intellectual control of incoming manuscript materials through arranging and rehousing this material, creating records in ArchivesSpace, and other activities.
- Performs processing of archival and manuscript collections and assists with analyzing their organization, arrangement and preservation needs.
- Prepares descriptive tools for collections including finding aids and catalog records.
- Assists with the processing of print materials as needed.
- Assists with library instruction, including meeting with instructors, selecting materials, teaching classes, and participating in instructional assessment.
- Assists with developing reference tools.
- Assists with public programming and other outreach activities such as website development and maintenance, and exhibitions.
- Assists librarians with special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required: BA/BS and current enrollment in a relevant field or in a Public History or MLS program accredited by the American Library Association, or equivalent.

Preferred: Prior experience in a special collections setting and/or completion of at least one course in archival theory and practice; academic or activist background in human rights and social justice; working competency in a foreign language relevant to collection(s) to be processed (Spanish, Hebrew, French, Arabic)
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds and unpack, shelve and shift large quantities of library materials
- Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible
- Frequent bending, crouching, stooping

This internship is a temporary, part-time position available for 19 hours per week for the academic year (9 months). Hours are flexible within a M-F, 8:30-5:00 work week, but assistants are expected to set and maintain a consistent schedule.
