We are looking for a Head of Corporate Policy to work from our global head office (GSK House, Brentford, West London). This is a fundamental role within GSK’s Corporate Affairs department, which will be instrumental in helping GSK to shape and deliver its corporate affairs objectives. Corporate Affairs informs and drives delivery of the company strategy by bringing in the external voice and shaping our operating environment. As part of this a well-defined Corporate Policy Agenda, with clearly articulated positions, ensures that GSK is focused, well-represented and effectively advocating on issues relevant to the company.

As the Head of Corporate Policy (reporting directly to the VP - Head of Global and Corporate Government Affairs and Policy) you will be the single point of accountability to lead your senior team (2 direct reports) in coordinating and delivering GSK’s corporate policy. This will include central analysis of external trends/emerging debate and their specific impact on GSK, as well as ensuring the Corporate Policy Agenda is well-informed (identifying key areas of risk and opportunity most relevant to the business, Company Strategy and Trust Framework). You will also create well-developed, evidence-based GSK Policy Positions and advocacy plans to support the Corporate Policy Agenda and provide high-level policy leadership across GSK’s core functions and business units to ensure visibility and alignment on cross-cutting topics. This will include taking a proactive (and advisory) approach on emerging trends to define the right policy agenda and advocacy plans for the Company.

Day to day responsibilities will extend to consolidating external analysis (across new and existing inputs) to spot gaps/opportunities (generating foresight and advise on Corporate Policy Agenda), creating/managing a panel of External Advisors, and commissioning appropriate research. You will be instrumental in leading development of GSK Positions for the Corporate Policy Agenda and you will lead GSK’s Internal Policy Network (to ensure visibility of policy issues and alignment on priorities). You will champion the approved Corporate Policy Agenda (across GSK’s advocacy network; Corporate, Hubs, Regions) to drive impactful engagement and deliver results. You will present quarterly to the Policy Steering Group (chaired by the President of Global Affairs) on progress of the Corporate Policy Agenda, as well as on emerging insights to assess the need for action / course correction (as appropriate). In this capacity you will also identify opportunities for (and lead) production of high-quality written outputs (including speeches, presentations, thought-leadership articles, etc) for senior leaders which will proactively promote the company’s Corporate Policy Agenda. You will also manage GSK’s set of public policy positions posted on company website(s) and provide reports/briefings for senior leaders to support engagement on the Corporate Policy Agenda.

About You:

We are looking for an exceptional individual with a demonstrable track-record of delivery. Relevant experience and knowledge (insight) is essential, as is experience of complex matrix-management across functions, businesses, and geography. You will have a degree (ideally a master’s degree) in a suitable subject eg; (Political Science, Economics, or Business). You will have strong judgement, analysis and strategic advisory abilities (as you will be a trusted source of sound advice at the most senior levels of the company). Your experience will have ideally been obtained in a Large BlueChip Pharmaceutical or Healthcare (or possibly FMCG) environment. You will have demonstrable skill / ability in dealing with a wide variety of senior stakeholders (globally), and a proven ability to drive performance. It is imperative in this role that you drive common-objective thinking, with a complete focus on providing solutions. You will need to be highly persuasive and have a strong continuous improvement mindset.
