Job Purpose and Mission

This job contributes to Starbucks success by supporting the implementation and ongoing sustainability of food safety & quality for all products going into our store environment and supporting the management of retail food safety standards. The individual will have a passion for implementing high safety & quality requirements within the constraints of commercial practicalities. This is a great opportunity for newly qualified environmental health graduate or food technologist.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
  • Supports the UK Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Manager to deliver food safety policies, procedures and measure compliance within UK Starbucks stores
  • Directs the Starbucks suppliers’ 3rd party product testing and quality compliance in support of product safety reviews for food and bakery items based on Starbucks documented requirements
  • Manages any queries, questions and request for information on Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory from retail operations teams. Provides accurate product information to internal partners to respond to consumer, media and other external organisation inquiries
  • Maintains the Supplier Approval database ensuring timely auditing and audit corrective actions follow-up
  • Summarises data, identifies risks, opportunities for improvement and provides feedback to key stakeholders
  • Supports investigation and troubleshooting of quality and product performance issues arising from partners, customers, Starbucks contract manufacturers, retail stores and regulators
  • Manages product specifications and allergen information
  • Uses data and insight to identify trends and key areas of risk
  • Keeps up to date with legislative changes, trends and technology, emerging product risks and risk management activity to ensure the Starbucks business remains complaint

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Degree qualified in food science, environmental health or related discipline
  • Retail operational awareness and knowledge would be beneficial
  • Experience in food manufacturing, food quality, regulatory, retail food safety or auditing
  • Comfortable interacting with local regulators
  • Experience and knowledge of the documentation requirements of quality, food safety and quality management systems such as: ISO 9001, FSSC 22000, BRC Standards
  • Understanding of effective approach for managing safety & quality in a retail environment
  • Ability to be creative, innovative and be able to identify and present solutions to problems
  • Self-driven and passionate about food safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence internal customers and external service providers
  • Ability to apply sound technical principles to root cause issues, problem solve and identify opportunities
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask, understand project management essentials and have strong attention to detail
  • Able to work under tight deadlines on occasion and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to collect data, organize, analyse and capture conclusions
    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, with skills in excel preferable
