Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of related experience; Associates degree in related discipline and 6 years related experience.

Hull Structure or Outfitting, Foundation Design experience.

Familiar with Navy Ship Spec requirements.

3D Modeling experience.

AutoCAD 2D experience.

Shipconstructor experience.

Preferred Qualifications

10 or more years in Design or with at least 12 years in Shipbuilding.

Mastery of AutoCAD and familiarity with Ship Constructor.

HII checking experience in any or all of the following: Foundations, O&F, Structure, Loften and Nav Arch Manufacturing Aids.
