A vacancy has arisen for the post of Community Liaison Officer (CLO) based at Medway Police Station, you be required to provide CLO cover across North Division and the County where required. This is a full time post with some weekend cover. The purpose of the CLO role is to support local community relations initiatives specific to diverse and vulnerable communities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate good organisational ability and a sound understanding of community relations. A proven record of building productive relationships with community organisations/groups and individuals is essential. You will be proactive and able to use your influencing skills to help build bridges with communities, some who may be “overlooked” and/or have a mistrust of the police. The post holder will have excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to work unsupervised.

You will be skilled at developing productive working relationships with partners and stakeholders in the community to identify opportunities for joint working to improve service delivery for diverse groups in the community.

You will be key to identifying community tensions and working with colleagues in the Community Safety Unit as well as advising senior managers on the best solutions, therefore problem solving is essential to this role. Knowledge of diverse communities is desirable as you will be providing tactical advice to operational officers and staff. There will be occasional meetings in the evenings and duty weekend therefore a degree of flexibility is required.

An understanding of Equality legislation is essential and funding project management experience is desirable for this role.
